Use of Force: Transformative Practices for Supervisors and Trainers

Use of Force: Transformative Practices for Supervisors and Trainers

Use of force is still the biggest exposure law enforcement professionals face in today’s world. Agencies are struggling with the effort to keep up with police reform. Yet most “use of force training” is skill based and done from silos of expertise and is divorced from the realities of the legal environment we work in. Often one instructor teaches the hands-on tactics, another teaches firearms and yet another group teaches tactics.

You must be able to build a training program to bring it all together.  Police trainers must understand the current standards (practices) for using force, teaching force, and critically analyzing force incidents. Be pro-active approach; don't wait until it is too late to gain the knowledge and tools to be an agent of change on force training and critical analysis of force.

This is a high-level course where you will be expected to challenge yourself and your fellow students to take your knowledge and performance to the next level. This course will require some work to be done before attending the course. Do not come to this course if you do not want to take your skills and abilities on police use of force to a higher level. Students will design legally sufficient training modules on use force.
